Project Scope

The shop breakroom was a retrofit, involving the complete demolition and reconstruction of the existing space to create a modernized, energy efficient environment to meet contemporary standards and enhance functionality. It involved the demolition of existing ceiling structures, followed by the installation of a new ceiling system complete with modern lighting fixtures and updated sprinkler heads.  All flooring was removed to make way for the installation of durable and aesthetically pleasing Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT). A soffit was constructed, and all walls were meticulously painted to enhance architectural appeal and rejuvenate the visual appeal. Furthermore, brand-new cabinetry, including a kitchen island with solid surface countertops, was installed to enhance storage capacity and workspace functionality within the renovated area.

  • New Access/Doorway:  A new case opening into the main corridor was constructed by cutting through existing walls which required precise cutting, framing the opening, and installing the necessary components for the new casing which.  necessitating precise cutting and framing procedures
  • Jobsite Safety: Because the breakroom is situated within the manufacturing area, adherence to safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment not only for the MBS team but also for all Sumitomo employees was of paramount importance. Regular site inspections were conducted to assess the jobsite and identify any potential safety hazards. This proactive approach allowed for the prompt identification and mitigation of risks, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and standards. To further enhance safety measures, physical barriers were placed to clearly demarcate our construction zones and restrict access to hazardous areas. These safety barriers helped prevent unauthorized entry and minimize the risk of accidents or injuries, prioritizing the well-being of all individuals on-site.
  • Cabinetry: Plastic laminate cabinets with Meganite solid surface countertops and an Island wall with waterfall ends were installed.
  • Plumbing:  Modification of the water supply piping with added valves and new kitchen sink.

The Challenge

  • Initial Concerns: The breakroom is situated within the manufacturing area of the facility, emphasizing the importance of safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment for both the MBS team and Sumitomo employees.
  • Specific Needs: Sumitomo wanted us to work as swiftly to complete the project, as their employees needed their breakroom and preferred minimal disruption.

Our Approach

  • Consultation and Planning: During our consultation, we identified key areas of focus, such as budget constraints, timeline considerations, and desired outcomes. We adjusted our approach and strategies accordingly, so our actions were in line with their goals. Our recurring collaborations with Sumitomo over the years have further solidified trust and rapport, making our consultation and planning process seamlessly integrated with their expectations and needs.
  • Customized Solution: A strategy was devised to work diligently and swiftly, prioritizing efficient progress while adhering to the project timeline. This involved coordinating tasks effectively and allocating resources efficiently to meet deadlines and minimize disruptions.
  • Execution: Executing the project amidst the busy holiday season required meticulous planning and coordination. A carefully devised construction schedule was made to efficiently coordinate our skilled labor crews and subcontractors to optimize productivity while accommodating the Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year holidays. Recognizing that a clean jobsite is a safe one, we took extra measures pre-construction to shield Sumitomo’s manufacturing equipment from construction debris and dust. Additionally, we applied Ram Board to protect the existing shop corridor flooring during the construction process. Continuous site inspections were conducted to promptly detect any safety risks or breaches in our protective measures, ensuring a secure and efficient construction process.
